Tennis in Va Beach Schools.

Part of our Youth in Tennis Program includes working to make tennis more accessible and enjoyable to all students throughout Virginia Beach. As part of our outreach, we are working with the USTA to bring resources to every Virginia Beach school tennis program.  To that end, the VBTPA, through the USTA Mid Atlantic, has registered all Virginia Beach schools as a school partner.  As a school partner, coaches will be able to take advantage of all the resources provided at NO CHARGE through USTA’s Net Generation (NetGen) program.  See below for further details of this program.

Since starting this program in 2021, we have signed up 22 schools to receive the USTA Net Generation Package. This package includes 30 rackets, balls, and tape for lines, a net. Plus, we have facilitated clinics with PE Teachers and their students on how to use the package along with the basics of tennis.

The VBTPA also launched other programs to include working directly with Virginia Beach high school tennis coaches to provide racquets and on-site assistance (through coach volunteers and VBTPA Ambassadors) so their programs can grow and compete interscholastically.  If you are a high school student looking to participate in your high school’s tennis team or coach in need such assistance, please contact Gary Garner at gdgusa123@yahoo.com.

Junior Tournaments.

We have secured locations and a Sponsor in Dave Howell, Founder of Universal Tennis Rating (the Rating system used by the ATP and WTA) to kick start this exciting venture.

Our students will now have tournaments in Virginia Beach and ODU in Norfolk, to develop and broaden their skills in competition.

The hope is to better prepare our juniors for the State and Mid-Atlantic tournaments, including the numerous ones held at VBTCC.

Currently, these tournaments are dominated by students from the Richmond and Northern VA area.

What exactly is USTA NetGen?

Net Generation is a USTA program aimed to bring tennis to all youth. As part of the program, the USTA created a cool interactive app for tennis coaches. The NetGen App provides tennis coaches access to free business tools, resources, and curriculum for teaching students of all skill levels.

By downloading the NetGen App, coaches can access videos, a whiteboard feature, pre-built lesson plans, and an on-court assessment tool, to name a few. Coaches will also be able to download the Net Generation Team Tennis manual in the Tennis Service Center. As a registered high school with the USTA, these NetGen App’s features are available at no cost.
