USTA League Status
by Karen Tucker. Posted 6/26/2020
It is important that everyone get consistent information and we want to let you know that we are making every effort to make leagues available if at all possible. Additionally, we wish to share the reasons we have been unable to give you definite answers about when this will occur.
The Covid-19 shutdown impacted every aspect of setting up and running our leagues. Obviously, it was necessary for the safety of everyone.
USTA Mid Atlantic has just begun opening registrations, but not all at once. There are very specific safety guidelines that must be met. Additionally, they will not open registration until they are sure they are in compliance with state and local guidelines.
During Phase 2, Virginia Beach Parks and Rec (we rent all courts from them) was allowing recreational tennis at all of their facilities. We assumed that would include organized league play and that we could start reserving our courts. However, they decided we couldn’t do that yet.
Statewide, we will be entering Phase 3 on July 1, which should lift most local restrictions. Again, Parks and Rec has said that the City services may not align with that exact date. They believe it will be close and will give us an exact date next week.
Everything has been up in the air and uncertain. This is why we have been unable to answer your questions. As soon as we know anything, we will let you know. Hopefully, very soon….
Because of the lost time, Mid Atlantic has suggested we pare down our offerings to Adult 18 & over, Adult 55 & over and Adult 55 & over mixed. There will be no National or Sectional tournaments, however, there will be an Adult 18 & over Regional.
I coordinate the Adult 18 & over, Adult 55 & over, and Adult 55 & over mixed
Due to some unforeseen circumstances, out of our control, it may be necessary to be flexible regarding days and times of leagues.
For those of you hanging in and waiting, we are doing our best!!!!
A million thanks to ALL of you for your patience.
